Teaching Experience

I have served in a range of instructional roles at the University of Wisconsin–Stout, where I have contributed to both mathematics and physics education. My teaching experience includes:

Across all these roles, I’ve prioritized active learning, conceptual understanding, and student engagement. My experience reflects a strong commitment to inclusive and effective STEM education.

Teaching Philosophy

My approach to teaching mathematics is grounded in the belief that students learn best when they feel respected, supported, and challenged. I recognize that every student brings a different background, set of experiences, and way of thinking to the classroom. What came easily to me might not for them, and vice versa. That’s why I aim to meet students where they are, without assumptions, and build from there.

I’ve worked with students across the spectrum, from those rebuilding foundational skills in developmental algebra to those tackling advanced topics in math and physics. Across all levels, I focus on helping students understand the ideas behind the procedures, and I work to connect concepts to their future academic or professional work. My interdisciplinary background in math, physics, computer science, and engineering helps me show students how what they’re learning now will show up again later.

I’m also interested in helping students engage with mathematics beyond formulas. As a student, I found writing assignments incredibly valuable in clarifying my understanding. While I haven’t yet implemented them in my own courses, I hope to incorporate similar writing-based projects to encourage reflection, communication, and deeper learning.

Ultimately, my goal is to help students develop confidence, clarity, and curiosity in their approach to mathematics, skills that serve them long after the course ends.
